In her early years, she began playing golf and in 2007, at the age of 12, she was the first female to be qualified to compete in the US Women's Open. It was not a win but she did finish second that year after winning the Aldila Junior Classic. She was the youngest American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) player to win the championship, in addition to being the winner of the Westfield Junior PGA Championship as the youngest player to do this at the time.
